Why bees?

“If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live…”

Albert Einstein

The environment is in trouble – and we’re on a mission to help save it.

Are you joining us?

Why do they need our help?

  • One-third of the UK’s bee population has disappeared over the past decade.
  • Since 1900, the UK has lost 13 species of bee and a further 35 are under threat of extinction.
  • Across Europe, nearly 1 in 10 wild bee species face extinction.

What does this mean for us?

  • Today, with fewer bee-friendly flowers, unpleasant pesticides and increased urbanisation, there are just 270,000 active hives in the UK compared with around 1,000,000 hives in 1900.
  • Without bees, it would cost UK farmers £1.8 billion a year to pollinate crops artificially.
  • An estimated one third of our food depends on pollination – aside from honey, there is a considerable amount of food that would disappear from our shelves completely should bees die out.
  • The economic benefit of pollination to crop production in the UK is approximately half a billion GBP a year.
  • 80% of European wildflowers need pollination to survive and thrive – in turn, providing food and somewhere for animals to call home.

How can you get involved?

We want to help people fall in love with bees, not fear them – and help stop the population decline.

Both businesses and individuals can be part of our mission.
